Computer scientists receive nearly $125k for state-of-the-art infrastructure

Two researchers in the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science have received John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF) awards from the Canada Foundation for Innovation. The funding will provide them with infrastructure support to expand their research programs. The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science, made the funding announcement in Sudbury today.

Xu Chu successfully defended his PhD in August 2017. He was supervised by Professor Ihab Ilyas, a member of the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science’s Data Systems Group.

An app for the perfect selfie

Computer scientists at the University of Waterloo have developed a smartphone app that helps people learn the art of taking great selfies.

Inside the app is an algorithm that directs the user where to position the camera allowing them to take the best shot possible.
