The David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science — the largest academic concentration of computer science researchers in the nation — is home to ten Fellows of the Association for Computing Machinery, seven Fellows of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and nine Fellows of the Royal Society of Canada.

We are ranked number one for computer science for the fourth year in a row based on program and research reputation according to the Maclean’s 2023 university rankings, and we are among the top 25 universities internationally for computer science according to the 20232022 and 2021 Quacquarelli Symonds worldwide university subject rankings.

Our computer science faculty members have won many prestigious awards and have had numerous honours conferred by national and international research societies and associations

Collectively, our research spans the broad field of computer science — from foundational work on the theory of computation, artificial intelligence and machine learning, to cryptography, security and privacy, to data systems, systems and networking, and programming languages to human-computer interaction, software engineering, symbolic computation, and much more.
