Doctoral candidate awarded 2013 Alumni Gold Medal

Carol (Jun) FungDoctoral candidate, Carol (JunFung (Computer security group, Raouf Boutaba), has been awarded the 2013 Alumni Gold Medal (PhD program) which will be presented during the October convocation ceremony. Only one medal for outstanding academic performance on completion of a Master’s program and one medal for completion of a PhD program will be awarded at the Fall convocation.

Fung's research focuses on Collaborative Intrusion Detection Networks (CIDN) and social networks, including the design of the collaboration framework, trust management to detect malicious nodes and expertise nodes, incentive design to encourage participants to actively contribute to the collaboration, and performance optimizations of such a system. 

Fung has received many prestigious awards and honours over the past few years including the best dissertation award (Design and Management of Collaborative Intrusion Detection Networks) at IEEE IM 2013. Fung participated in the Three Minute Thesis competition held on campus earlier this year. Her presentation can be found below.
