Associate Professor uses game theory to battle forest fires

Head shot of Kate LarsonKate Larson, Associate Professor with the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science is using game theory in the field to help distressed provincial forest-firefighting agencies gain a competitive edge when resources are thin and a fire is raging. 

A member of the Artificial Intelligence group, Larson focuses her research on understanding how computational limitations influence strategic behavior in multiagent systems, as well as developing approaches to overcome computational issues which arise in practical applications of mechanism design.
