Talk by Sarah Sharp: Breaking into Open Source and Linux - A USB 3.0 success story

The Women in Computer Science Undergraduate Committee invites you to attend this term's public lecture in which we will host Sarah Sharp, Linux kernel developer and USB 3.0 driver author.

Sarah will provide a deep dive into how USB 3.0 support was added to the Linux kernel, as an example of the technical, social, and cultural challenges in getting involved in open source development. She will also provide tips for getting involved with the Linux kernel community.

About the speaker

Sarah Sharp is a software engineer at Intel's Open Source Technology Center. Sarah is the author of the Linux kernel USB 3.0 driver, and has participated in kernel developement since 2006. She currently works as an embedded software developer with the Yocto Project.

Sarah volunteers as the coordinator for the Linux kernel project within the FOSS Outreach Program for Women (OPW). Sarah herds kernel mentors, finds funding, helps OPW applicants, and writes documentation for getting started in Linux kernel development.

Sarah has participated in many open source projects, from open source and open hardware amateur rockets to automated watering systems for her garden.
