For the second year, the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science has been ranked 24th in the world by U.K. firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The school, which is ranked second in Canada, joins a number of other subjects from the University of Waterloo in the top 200 including Mathematics - 20th, and Statistics - in the top 100. 

PhD candidates Xu Chu (Ihab Ilyas, Database Research) and Laura Inozemtseva (Reid Holmes, Software Architecture), have been invited to join the prestigious Microsoft Research PhD Fellowship Program. 

Ahmed E. Hassan, an alumnus of the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science, has been named CACS/AIC Outstanding Young Computer Science Researcher for 2014.

Liam Horne, an undergraduate student in the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science has been named Co-op Student of the Year for the Faculty of Mathematics.

Urs Hengartner, an associate professor in the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science, was quoted in a CBC News Go Public investigation regarding sequencing fraud and credit card security. 

Richard Mann, an Associate Professor in the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science, recently had work featured in The Australian, an Australian newspaper which is recognized as the country's leading national news brand.

In a perfect world, computer science Professor Jo Atlee would like to glance around her classroom and see an even mixture of male and female students.

Ian Goldberg, a professor in the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science has been awarded a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Strategic Project Grant for his work on rigorous privacy-enabled interactions with online information.
