David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science professor Reid Holmes and PhD candidate Laura Inozemtseva have won an Association for Computing Machinery Distinguished Paper Award for their paper Are Mutants a Valid Substitute for Real Faults in Software Testing? at the 22nd ACM SIGSOFT International Symposium on Foundations of Software Engineering. 

The Waterloo Black team finished 1^st at the East Central North America Association for Computing Machinery Regional Programming Contest in Windsor, Ontario this past weekend. The Waterloo Red and Gold teams, which comprised of only first and second year students, placed impressively 7^th and 8^th place respectively.

Ihab Ilyas, a professor with the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science has been named an Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Distinguished Scientist.

Mobile-payment company Square is holding a code camp at its newly opened downtown Kitchener office this Wednesday evening for 40 young women studying computer science at the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science.

This is the only code camp that Square is running for computer science students in Canada. During the camp, students will learn about developing their technical brand online by working on open source software with Square engineers.

The David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science has been ranked the top Computer Science university in Canada, 18th globally, by US News & World Report. 

The US News & World Report rankings are based on schools' academic research and reputation, and allow students to compare universities around the world.

David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science professor Craig Kaplan is getting exposure in the Jewish community by manufacturing yarmulkes through 3D printing.

Kaplan's application of mathematical specification in the creation of the iconic symbol is one more example of how mathematics plays a role in our day to day lives.

On September 19, the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science hosted it's annual research symposium in the Davis Centre. 

28 graduate students, including those who were awarded Cheriton scholarships displayed their research posters in the great hall. Two prizes are awarded to the best posters present at the symposium. The first prize winner is awarded $300 and $200 goes to the second prize winner.

David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science PhD candidate, Fathiyeh Faghih (Borzoo Bonakdarpour), has been awarded the best student paper for her work on "SMT-based Synthesis of Distributed Self-stabilizing Protocols", at the 16th International Symposium on Stabilization, Safety, and Security of Distributed Systems (SSS '14), in Paderborn, Germany.

On September 22, 2014 the Office of the President honoured the 189 2013-14 Warrior Academic All-Canadians including three students belonging to the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science.

Academic All-Canadians are students who have maintained an average of 80% and higher while competing for an interuniversity sport. The University of Waterloo has one of the highest percentages of academic all-Canadian student-athletes in the country each year.
