David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science
The Cheriton School of Computer Science is named for David R. Cheriton, who earned his PhD in Computer Science in 1978, and made a transformational gift to the school in 2005. It has become the largest academic concentration of Computer Science researchers in Canada.

With this goal in mind, Cohere and Waterloo.AI sponsored a student-led hackathon that focused on Retrieval Augmented Generation — also known as RAG — at the University of Waterloo’s IDEAs clinic.

Computer scientists at the Cheriton School of Computer Science are using a graph-based deep learning model to analyze proteins on the surface of cells, which could lead to personalized medicine to treat cancer and infectious diseases.
The researchers developed GraphNovo, a new program that provides a more accurate understanding of cellular peptide sequences, linear chains of amino acids.
