Rina Wehbe’s video selected as a top entry in NSERC's Science, Action! Contest

Thursday, February 28, 2019

A video created by Rina R. Wehbe, a PhD student at the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science, has been selected as one of 40 entries in NSERC’s Science, Action! video contest.

Titled Playing with Space, Rina’s video explores designing large displays for collaboaration.

Project description: Large multi-touch displays may be found in offices, meeting rooms, and showcasing advertisements in the mall. As these displays begin to attract more people, users may now approach the display with social protocol in mind. Although polite, this social protocol may limit use of the display. For example, we may find that multiple users will line up behind single user using a multi-touch display, which undermines the purpose of these collaborative multi-touch environments. My research focuses on understanding the social and collaborative environment around large displays with the aim of improving the design of these collaborative environments.

From February 27 to March 27, the videos will be hosted on NSERC’s website and YouTube channel for public voting.

The 25 videos with the most views at the end of this period will proceed to the judges’ panel where the final 15 prize winners will be decided.

Public voting runs until 4 p.m. on March 27, 2019. Voting results will be revealed the week of April 8, 2019.
