The David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science is deeply saddened to share the passing of former chair, Nicholas Cercone. Professor Cercone passed peacefully with his wife by his side, members of the school were told in a letter from York University's dean of the Lassonde school of Engineering Janusz Kozinski.
"Nick was chair of the Department of Computer Science at Waterloo from 1997-2002, a time of much growth and excitement," said Cheriton School Director Mark Giesbrecht. "He hired many faculty and staff members who are here today, myself included, and had an enormous influence on the shape of our School."
