Shahin
Kamali,
a
PhD
student
in
the
David
R.
Cheriton School
of
Computer
Science, has
been
awarded
the Derick
Wood
Graduate
Scholarship.
Dr.
Derick
Wood
was
a
Professor
in
the
School
from
1982
to
1992.
He
is
widely
known
for
his
outstanding
research
contributions
in
a
number
of
areas
of
theoretical
Computer
Science,
including
algorithms,
data
structures,
and
formal
languages.
From
1995
until
his
retirement
in
2006,
he
was
Chair
Professor
of
Computer
Science
and
Engineering
at
Hong
Kong
University
of
Science
and
Technology.
In
celebration
of
the
life
of
Dr.
Derick
Wood,
the
Derick
Wood
Graduate
Scholarship
has
been
funded
by
an
endowment
created
in
his
honour. This
award
is
for
PhD
students
working
in
the
general
area
of
algorithms,
and
it
is
awarded
based
on
academic
and
research
excellence.
