Mark Elendt and Jeff Lait are two Academy Award winning developers at SideFX who have a long history in the industry. They will be discussing the unique challenges involved in developing 3D tools for artists and what it’s like to be a software developer in this very exciting industry.

This time last year we saw our 40,000^th alumnus cross the stage and we celebrated every graduating student in the Faculty of Mathematics. We can’t do that for the Class of 2020 because of COVID-19. This year’s event will be virtual as we celebrate the 1,200 mathies who deserve a memorable finale for their years of hard work and diligent study. We hope to hold an in-person ceremony as soon as we are able.

Digital adoption and dependence have been dramatically propelled by the COVID-19 pandemic. This sudden growth spotlights critical issues such as cybersecurity, privacy, resilience, the highly consequential shift to 5G, and what innovative technologies may follow. Leadership in 5G adoption will be a vital determinant of future national competitiveness, as 5G will further enable dramatic technological advances in logistics, manufacturing, autonomous vehicles, mining, construction and smart grids.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (or known as drones) are becoming popular for servicing, inspection, surveillance, and commercial activities in recent years. Such activities, however, are hindered by some challenges that are inherent in urban flight operations.
