This three-day workshop covers an intense 17-hour curriculum designed to give beginners complete, basic programming skills to use in their studies or workplace. It is intended for everyone who wants to learn basics of programming and does not have an opportunity to do so as a part of their studies. Over the course of the workshop, participants will learn the Python programming language through lectures and hands-on sessions, supported by a team of mentors.

Attendees are expected to bring their own laptops. We are able to provide assistance to participants who do not have their own computer. During the first day of the workshop (Friday evening) we will help everyone install the necessary software on their computers.

The funding for this event (coffee breaks and lunches) is provided by the Python Software Foundation, as well as Women in Computer Science.

Applications

More information and the link to the application form are available via Github. Applications close on 11:59:59 p.m. June 3, 2018. We will accept 30 applicants and they will be notified by June 6, 2018. Due to limited resources and high interest we will not accept late applications.

We are affiliated with Women in Computer Science, and value a respectful, supportive and welcoming environment for all participants — students and non-students alike.

Everyone is welcome to apply for this workshop, though priority will be given to under-represented groups in the field of computing.

Mentoring

Mentors are helping to co-organize the event, teach curriculum and provide one-on-one assistance to participants. The low student-to-mentor ratio (5:1) will ensure that every student gets an opportunity to ask questions in person and gets individualized instruction during practical sessions. The six mentor volunteers have been selected through an online application process.
