In this talk we will study single qutrit quantum circuits consisting of words over the Clifford+D, Clifford+R and Clifford+T gate sets using algebraic methods. We propose a new technique to study the smallest denominator exponent of a matrix using derivatives mod p and apply this method to the exact synthesis problem for various universal gate sets.
