Aarti Malhotra, PhD candidate
David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science

We investigate a deep learning approach to classify emotions in group-level photos into three categories: (1) positive; (2) neutral; and (3) negative.

We used the Group Affect Database (GAD) dataset provided in the 6th Emotion Recognition in the Wild Challenge (EmotiW 2018). We used Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to extract facial features and skeletal features, and to train on labelled dataset. We report our methods, results, and discuss future works.
