David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science
In this talk, I chronicle some of my work on trust modeling in multiagent systems conducted with my graduate students, in an effort to convey some of the rich, varied and fascinating subtopics that our field has been exploring for the past 15 years. I then discuss two primary directions for future research which stretch beyond the current topic area: exploring the challenges of trusted AI systems and of coping with online digital misinformation. For each, I reflect on how trust modeling in multiagent systems can provide insights into possible solutions; I also advocate for greater communication between our respective communities. I conclude with some general thoughts on what makes the study of trust modeling in multiagent systems such a valued topic, one that I believe will have immense potential for the years to come.
Bio: Robin Cohen is a Professor in the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada where she has been a faculty member since 1984. She served as Associate Dean of Research in the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo from 2011-2014 and has held a number of senior administrative positions at the university.
Prof. Cohen has been an active member of the AAMAS and Artificial Intelligence communities since their inception. She became a Senior Member of AAAI in 2014. She is also a founding member of the User Modeling community. Prof. Cohen has been part of the Steering Committee for the Trust workshop at AAMAS for the past 4 years. She was also part of the Organizing Committee for the TRUST workshop at AAMAS this year, as well as in 2016 and in 2014. Her current research interests include trust modeling in multiagent systems and coordination in cooperative multiagent systems. She is also particularly interested in the context of social networks. Prof. Cohen has been involved in teaching the social implications of computing for many years now and has a keen interest in this area as well. Just this summer, Prof. Cohen also received CAIAC's Lifetime Achievement Award.
