We are saddened to announce that Robert Angus “Gus” German — one of the original “WATFOR kids” — passed away on March 12, 2022 at age 79.

Gus is remembered by friends and colleagues in the Cheriton School of Computer Science and the Faculty of Mathematics as one of the pioneers who helped establish the university’s reputation as a leader in computer science in the 1960s.

We are saddened to announce that our dear friend, mentor and colleague Edward Lank, Professor at the Cheriton School of Computer Science, passed away on March 21, 2022 at the age of 49.

Emerging hardware is shaping the future of heterogeneous computing; however, the use of such extraordinary computing power is restricted to a few software developers with hardware expertise. My research designs software developer tools to democratize heterogeneous computing.

Jason Amri is an undergraduate student studying computer science and business jointly at the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University. Along with taking classes and working 9 to 5 for a co-op employer, the star student is also an entrepreneur and a shining example of Waterloo’s spirit of innovation.
