Welcome to my blog...It's more of an occasional-random-quirky-thought blog or a check-out-this-cool-link blog than one of those this-is-what-i-had-for-breakfast-today-and-these-are-my-feelings-about-life blogs and it's definitely not one of those awful i'm-useful-and-have-important-things-to-say-and-i'm-contributing-to-society blogs. Enjoy.

In a parallel universe, I think I could follow in the steps of Joey Skaggs (scroll past the dog soup story)... but I just don't know how I could make (legitimate) money doing it.
First of all, the 1st three digits of a 7-digit phone number are known as the exchange. Second of all, in the old days, exchanges were known as a word and 1 digit, where the word usually began with the 2 letters corresponding to the first 2 digits of the exchange. THAT is why you always see KLondike-5 in the movies/TV, because 555 is KLondike. So according to this site my number would be FRaser-7 4335... or even better, FRaser-7 GEEK.

Okay... So've this page was getting a little long, so I've added the wonderful archive section to the left, and reduced the number of links on the main page. This turned out to be quite a hassle...

[GEEK]
I'm not sure if there is a bug in the Blogger website or what, but for the life of me, I couldn't get the Archive Index Date Format to display properly. I wasted a bit of time, and looked at what some guy did at the Blogger archive script generator but that wasn't working for me (some weird NaN error that I couldn't be bothered to figure out). I looked at what he did and then figured out what I wanted to do.

Here is my fairly straight-forward solution:

Archive Index Date Format Yes

In your main template file, use the line:
<script type="text/javascript" src="<$BlogArchiveFileName$>"></script>

Here is my Archive Index Template:
var sArchiveText = '';
<Blogger>
sArchiveText = "<a href=<$BlogArchiveLink$> target=_self><$BlogArchiveName$></a><br>" + sArchiveText;
</Blogger>
sArchiveText = "<a href=./ target=_self>most recent</a><br>" + sArchiveText;
document.write(sArchiveText);

I made it kinda-fancy in two ways: I reversed the order so it goes newest -> oldest, and I added the 'current' link at the top.

Well, as the final nail is driven into Netscape's coffin, it's scary to see how many ex-employees there are at ex-mozilla.org.

So I'm at home in Ontario at my parent's place... stuck here between weddings, and actually working on The Thesis... I order a late night snack from Little Caesars (Don't have 'em in Vancouver) -- it was SO good by the way.... and the pizza delivery guy comes around... and I think I went to high school with the guy! It was a little awkward, and he wouldn't look me in the eye. I just felt terrible about the whole thing and pretended I didn't recognize him.
Here is the word on why www.crapweasel.com was down for so long:
"Try now... a cable was lose [sic] on the back of the server..."
But I really can't complain because my host doesn't charge me :)

More excellent research out of UBC: Apparently, Stonehenge is one big yonic symbol. In other news, I've been wondering what the female equivalent of a phallic symbol is for years, and I just bothered to look it up now. Definitely my new word for the day.

So I recently had my first encounter with CD Audio Copy Protection and BOY does it suck! The discs are House Essentials 2004 (2-disc) and Massive 2004 from EMI Music Canada And there is a teeny tiny warning on the discs that I didn't see at the time of purchase. I put a disc in my PC to listen to while working -- and I thought it was going to break my PC. Lots of loud whirring and screeching and then this player pops up in windows so I can play it. Get this -- ONLY their software will let you play the CD -- other PC CD players won't recognize it. Okay... I can live with this, but the stupid app takes up 90% of my CPU ... on a P4 1.8GHz. Next, You can't get the TOC, so you can't get track/artist information from freedb.org, and there is no [easy] way of putting these tracks on my MP3 player... something I am totally and legally allowed to do. But yes, it DOES play fine in a regular CD player. -sigh-

Okay... I've been assured that the website will be coming back soon... so I'm going to blog without it. here is an old story about the US regulations on keeping your phone number when you switch carriers... I hope they get this in Canada.
