In general, it is necessary to first connect a VGA adaptor into the video cable, before connecting it to the Mac.iPad
We've seen it necessary to reboot an iPad to make it connect. The connection can be intermittent.Projectors
We've seen the need to power-cycle a projector before it will notice the input signal (e.g. ST #101033).
