Windows 10 Post Install Privacy Settings

Updated 11 Aug 2017
Note: I believe these settings are only per user - however this is what I recommend in general
  • General
    • Search Privacy Settings Recommendations for clients
    • Let websites provide relevent content by accessing my language list -> OFF
    • Let Window track app launches to improve Start and Search results -> OFF

  • Other Categories
    • Depending on the platform (laptop vs. NUC) disable settings that aren't needed. Microphone and camera access may be needed on a laptop, but have no use on a NUC.
      • Call History -> OFF
      • Messaging -> OFF
      • Notifications -> OFF
      • Contacts -> OFF
      • Tasks -> OFF
      • Account Info -> OFF
    • Make sure to disable those background apps that do not require background access (i.e. Xerox Print Experience, HP Smart, Microsoft Edge, Settings)

Windows 10 Applications

Windows 10 Recommended Applications that are missing

Windows 10 Installed Printers

  • All of these printers are setup for Direct Printing
    • This is the recommend setup
      • Permits detailed user reporting if problems occur (toner, paper out, paper jan, manual feed requested, etc)
      • Permits canceling of jobs
  • Xerox-DC2311 WorkCentre 5335 in DC2311
  • DC2583-HP LaserJet M605 in DC2583
  • DC3322-Xerox WorkCentre 7535 in DC3322
  • DC3622-Xerox-WorkCentre 7535 WorkCentre in DC3622 Default Printer

Windows 10 Random ideas Suggestion Box

  • RSG discussed the idea of adding a web link on the Desktop for new users (Clayton OU Rule ?)
    • Its purpose would be to explain all of the important stuff we want our clients to know
    • Perhaps we could also create a desktop background image with a few vital point like backups *The user could change it but we at least would know they would have to see it
  • Is Microsoft Silverlight really needed?
    • Currently deprecated (no download link)
    • Existing download link redirects to community developed version that is no longer actively developed.

Windows 10 Comments and Concerns

  • Start menu icons are garbled blue icons.
  • On reboot icons just no longer exist.
