Notes from Meetings and Interviews

June 20, 2005

  • Isaac, Michael, and Jason in attendance.
  • Interview notes are on-line.
  • Pieces of the application have been defined.
  • More pieces need to be flushed out.
  • Talked about a possible scanner interface, for scanning marks, letters, etc... with Ricoh devices.
  • Data model to be developed.
  • Still going to contact UW Grad Studies Office (GSO) for getting OUAC data, may help in developing our data model.
  • Math Faculty GSO contact may be helpful.
  • Isaac is away at the end of this week until July 18th.
  • Michael is going to get a copy of the Filemaker database to play with while Isaac is away. Maybe do some HTML form mock-ups.
  • Next meeting Tuesday July 19th.

User Interviews

June 7, 2005

  • Isaac, Michael, and Jason in attendance
  • TA assignments is most frustrating
  • Visited the OUAC site - did a fake application
  • Noted we can make OUAC number a primary key
  • Isaac to make more complete notes
  • Faculty interested in on-line distribution of application - too much paper shuffling right now.
  • Still have to talk to Debbie Mustin
  • OUAC handles UW on-line applications - need to talk to campus Grad Office to understand how it works
  • We'll meet again at 1:30pm on June 20th.

May 24, 2005

  • Isaac, Michael, and Jason in attendance
  • Place notes on cswiki
  • Isaac and Mike to both interview staff in Grad Office
  • Debbie Mustin may be a good resource
  • Need to determine the inputs, the outputs
  • First step is a plan:
    • Details of functionality (ie. what does the office do?)
    • Details of "backend" (ie. design decisions, data model)
    • How do we import data from the existing database?
    • Are there issues with integrating with other systems? (ie. data exports for Math Faculty grad office)
    • Are we going to suggest changes to processes in the office?
  • Once we have a plan, we need to determine what gets done first
  • Isaac and Michael to interview Grad office staff over the next 2 weeks
  • We'll meet again June 7th at 1:30pm.
