Homedirectory quotas (a2brenna) - RT#1112506
How to split users up into groups for cgroup?
Stacey Watson concerns about linux.student.cs moving forward, ex. Winter 2024
How much memory will we have in Winter 2024? Can each student use 400MB? 500MB?
yc2lee will reply to Stacey with actions CSCF is taking:
Buying more ram, and deploying more linux.student.cs servers (exactly how many?)
pty limit issue: easily monitored and easily increased
"Permission denied" errors: Anthony has increased timeout which reduces frequency this problem occurs
Slow filesystem performance:
disabling snapshots as temporary measure
Enabling disk quotas: "To solve the file data read/write performance problems we're encountering we need to move from HDDs to solid state storage. This gets significantly more expensive the more storage we require."
Students themselves should follow the instructions (repo) drafted by yc2lee, dtompkin, and s28watso, especially memory limit config setting in cpptools. Failing that, we can drastically reduce 64GB memory limit that's currently enforced by cgroup
