Configuring Thunderbird Calendar (Lightning) to use Exchange (Connect)

WORKING SOLUTION AS OF 2018/06/01

Ensure Thunderbird is up to Date

Windows Users

  1. Open Thunderbird
  2. Help -> About
  3. It will check for updates, if available apply them
  4. Click Close

Ubuntu Users

  1. Open a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T on GNOME/Unity)
  2. Type: sudo -s, Enter
  3. add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/thunderbird-new, press Enter
  4. Confirm adding
  5. apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade, Enter
  6. Confirm any upgrades

Install Lightning and Exchange Plugin

  1. Open Thunderbird
  2. Tools -> Add-ons
  3. Search for Lightning, (press Enter to search)
  4. Click Show all XX results (at bottom of page)
  5. Install the first one listed (Lightning, Featured) (hover over its entry, click Add to Thunderbird)
  6. Click Install
  7. Close the All Results tab
  8. Search for Exchange
  9. Install Provider for Microsoft Exchange
  10. Click Restart Now
  11. Thunderbird will restart, both plugins are installed
  12. Close the two Add-ons tab

Setup Exchange (Connect) Calendar

  1. Events and Tasks -> Calendar
  2. File -> New -> Calendar
  3. On the Network -> Next
  4. Microsoft Exchange 2007/2010 -> Next
  5. Preferences: Whatever you want (name, color, reminders)
  6. Email: Your @uwaterloo.ca email address -> Next
  7. Server URL: https://connect.uwaterloo.ca/ews/exchange.asmx
  8. Primary email address: Your @uwaterloo.ca
  9. Username: Your WatIAM userid
  10. Domain name: NEXUS
  11. Share folder Id: Leave Blank
  12. Check server and mailbox -> Next

Debug, Ubuntu 16.04

If the previous procedure doesn't work:
  1. Remove "Provider for Microsoft Exchange" from add-ons
  2. Download plugin from Ericsson/exchangecalendar v3.9.0 (or more recent) https://github.com/Ericsson/exchangecalendar/releases
  3. Install using menu-->Add-ons, from settings (up right) "add-on from a localfile "
  4. Restart Thunderbird
  5. Open Calendar Tab
  6. Right click in the calendars section and choose "new calendar".
  7. Choose "On the network"
  8. Choose Microsoft Exchange 2007/2010/2013
...
  1. Exchange type "hosted Exchange"
  2. Check: Use Exchange autodiscovery function and click on "perform autodiscovery"
  3. It should show "https://connect.uwaterloo.ca/EWS/Exchange.asmx" select it.
  4. Enter "user Name" and click on "Check Server and Mailbox"
  5. If no error, click on "Next" and "Finish"
