We sometimes want to be able to send mail from our mail client as if it's from a role-based address, without having to have a separate mailbox for it. E.g. gs4t@uwaterloo.ca is a "friendly" address for wics@uwaterloo.ca, with the goal being able to send mail as if it was sent by gs4t@uwaterloo.ca.
Steps that have been seen to work with Mac Mail follow. It uses the above example. The font style distinguishes between selections and typed data.
Mail → Preferences+ (lower left corner)
Add Other Mail Account → Continue
Full Name: GIRLsmarts4tech
Email Address: gs4t@uwaterloo.ca
Password: xxx (anything will do)
CreateIt will say that the account must be manually configured.
NextMail Server: connect.uwaterloo.ca
User Name: nexus\Your Userid
Password: Your Password
Nextthe defaults look ok
NextSMTP Server: connect.uwaterloo.ca
User Name: nexus\Your Userid
Password: Your Password
