SCG Mail aliases

• Mail sent to any of the mail aliases for SCG are handled by the CS core mail server. To determine who is in any of the aliases, follow the steps below.
  • Make sure you log into linux.cs then become www-scg first - documented in first step below

Who can become user "www-scg"

• access to this user is controlled by an .rhosts file. Faculty members in the group have access from any host in the CS core environment:

Determine which server handles mail for scg

• from any server in CS, run:
  • host -a scg.cs.uwaterloo.ca | grep MX

   scg.cs.uwaterloo.ca.    86400   IN      MX      0 mx100.cs.uwaterloo.ca

Get the list of aliases

• This requires privileged access, however the list of aliases does not change often
• On the mail host mx100.cs CSCF research support staff can do the following
• grep scg /software/sendmail/data/local/aliases

   mapledev-archive:/u/www-scg/archive/mbox.mapledev
   scg::include:/u/www-scg/mailaliases/scg
   scgmaple::include:/u/www-scg/mailaliases/scgmaple
   cs-rsg-scg: magore, lfolland

Look at the list of users for a given alias

• on any host in the CS core environment, do the following:
• ls -l /u/www-scg/mailaliases

• cat /u/www-scg/mailaliases/scg

Getting the list updated

• on any host in the CS core environment, users in the www-scg rhosts file can do the following
  • rlogin localhost -l www-scg
  • then, vi mailaliases/scg

• Send email to accounts@cs and request any additions or deletions
