How to Print from Macs to the Main CS Printers

Check the list of CUPS printers, mentioned below, and find the desired printer to set up. Just below is an example of how to set up a CUPS printer. The example shows the CUPS setup for the printer lj_cs. The other printers in the list can similarly be set up.

Note: Setting up colour printing to the Xerox Colour printers on a Mac appears to require the Mac print drivers from Xerox. (There may be a way to do this with PPD files, but more research will need to be done regarding this setup. Once it is tested, that process can be documented.)

Add a printer in the usual GUI way, using IPP, with print.cs.uwaterloo.ca:631 as the hostname and printers/lj_cs as the queue.

  1. System Preferences -> Hardware:Print&Fax -> Click "+" to add
  2. Protocol: IPP
  3. Address: print.cs.uwaterloo.ca:631
  4. Queue: printers/lj_cs ( Note make sure to include printers/ ) for a list of other available queues, see below
    • or classes/lj_csgrad if printing to the printer pool in the grad mail room
  5. Name: lj_cs (or whatever you like to call it)
  6. Location: DC 2311
  7. Print Using: Generic Postscript printer
    • or Print Using: HP Laserjet Series 4100
  8. Check "Printer has Duplex capability"
