Changing the Mac Short Name

In our world, the short name should match the UWDir entry, for ease in printer quota / access, and easier ssh access to our hosts.

Leopard (OSX 10.5) contains an advanced function to enable correction of an error in choice of short name,

In System Preferences, Accounts, as an administrator: right-click the account, and click "Advanced".

Tiger (OSX 10.4) does not, and the brute force method, like MacChangingStaff, is not so nice.

James Bucanek & Dan Frakes have contributed a little utility ChangeMacShortName.

It is available from the Internet, and contains a detailed ReadMe.
