Sun is angling for small footprint - 1/2/4u. Opterons and low-end Sparcs.
Look
here.
Looking at PXE installs for x86 over network.
Sun will also be supporting HP, IBM hardware and Dells - ie, the PE 2650 is Tier 1 supported. They claim the hardware line will be expanding within the next 8 months. (Keep in mind - November 2004.)
Will also be able to jumpstart an x86 server from a Sparc box. Using GRUB with Solaris 10 for the bootloader (so no protected boot partition required).
32 bit applications will work on 64 bit kernels.
HSS = horizontally scaled - many 1/2/4 way machines in a cluster.
IPMI on management networks = single point to manage the nodes in a cluster. (just x86)
http://dmtf.org/standard/smash - single CLI to sit on
IPMI and maybe give a chance at managing multiple architectures on a rack. Hrm, link is dead now (26 April 2005), but they're still talking about other things on that site.
(tried to) demonstrate "Hotdog" - waxed enthusiastic over it. Management interface. Solaris 8/9/10 on x86 "within 6 months".
N1OK prompt will actually be a shell so you can script from within the operating system.
