Meeting 25 February 2016, 2pm

Attended: drallen a2brenna fhgunn ldpaniak

Agenda:

  • Progress on Milestones
  • Timeline
  • Brief summary since the last meeting

Progress on Milestones:

  • Testing Failover: Daniel renamed the item with the milestone to "INITIAL testing failover" which is complete. So, done.
    • Further failover testing has to happen with sample data; we already have an item for testing Inventory with failover (without a milestone).
  • Backups set up and tested: (Schedule says due today): Fraser has made progress.

Timeline

  • Keeping to the schedule set last week:
    • Fraser and Daniel are moving/testing inventory- likely not finished until mid-next-week (not today as Daniel emailed out).
    • Schedule shows wrapup March 17 (a day later than last week).

Brief summary since the last meeting

  • Dave has confirmed the interfaces on the machines is currently capable of 10Gb to the rest of CS.
    • Anthony will confirm and switch the machine to 10Gb (requiring restarting containers) - probably ST#102302
  • Anthony's docs are linked from the Mysql page. He will update as he works on proposed checklist items...
  • Daniel investigated clients of the database; assuming www.cs, www.math, and linux.cscf are the only hosts we need to flush DNS cache.
  • Backups: Anthony will deb-ify Fraser's mysql-102:/usr/local/lib/mysql scripts and install on mysql{,.student}.cs and mysql-10{2,4,6}
  • Fraser: running mysqldumpexcept is quick. run twice separated by 10 sec; if the diff are identical, can use that timestamp.
    • how do we re-run import of permissions without clobbering mysql table?
      • percona command to output grants
        • but mysql.cs has lots of junk- grants for tables/users that don't exist; so fraser is writing a script to trim these.
    • slave grants: Anthony will update to use hostnames.
    • does nscd run? We don't think so; probably we want to run nscd. Anthony will set up nscd- we can benchmark before/after.
  • Anthony will review /etc/mysql/conf.d/ and merge into salt what he can.
    • Salt and mysql: best practices for password storage? Anthony suggests making a more secure password to be stored on slave... Anthony will make an ST item to do that before we're done.
  • Anthony will add marmoset to the slave "do NOT replicate" configs
  • Fraser will update the written list of instructions for doing stage two- before next week. He will put it in ST for comment.

Next Meeting

  • Thu 3 Mar - room is back to DC2310
