Per CSCF-RSG meeting of 12 April 2005, we need some standards for exactly what information we put in DNS (particularly the text records) for what machines. This is particularly important when dealing with security issues, where we frequently need rapid, accurate access to exactly who can actually do something about them.

Status: this is still simply a proposal.

This is intended to clarify the following document.

Standalone workstations

Set the USER field to the actual user of the machine: the grad student, or faculty/staff member who will be sitting in front of the machine on a day to day basis. If they do not administer the machine themselves, set the ADMIN record to the person who actually does.
