Time Savers
- Newsgroups: Tired of repeated questions on the newsgroup? Try drawing up an assignment-related FAQ each week based on questions posed in the newsgroup. See NewsGroupManagement.
- Consulting Hours: Students generally don't start assignments until the day before or the day that they are due. Therefore scheduling office hours in the consulting centre too early is inefficient. Planning hours in the 48 hours before a due date has proven optimal. However, avoid having hours too near the due date to avoid encouraging bad habits. For example, if an assignment is due in the afternoon or early evening, students will tend to rush office hours nearer to the due date.
- Help the marking TAs become more familiar with Scheme.
Communication
If there is more than one tutor, communication can become important. Especially if one tutor is in the consulting centre, and the other are in the office. The office phones can be useful, but what about outside of work hours?
KyleSpaans and
SanderzFung are big fans of
IRC
, and had created a channel just for CS136 tutors. It is called
#cs136
, and can be found on the
irc.freenode.net
network. You can find him in that channel all hours of the day.
SanderzFung,
KyungMinKim, and
KyleSpaans would often ask each other questions in the IRC channel.
