Windows Packaging Tools

Preparation

  • Look over the Reference Documents at the end of this document
  • Make sure windows update is disabled - and basically any unneeded service that updates files
  • Make sure you use a clean image of XP other programs and tasks can add extra garbage to the output files
    • ie You do NOT want active AV programs, quicktime, realplayer, open copies of word or notepad, any kind of autoupdate programs!

Utilities

  • Utility Locations: \\asimov.cscf.uwaterloo.ca\CORE\swtools\MSI packaging
  • Install both swiadmle.msi and WinINSTALLLE 2003.MSI
  • Use defaults for installs - these tools will not be part of our final images
  • Turn off Windows Update

disco32 Usage - Part of WinInstallLE

  • We will generally use defaults for all locations except where noted
  • When installing our application for imaging use C:\software

  • Launch Application:

  • Cancel at this screeen - we will run the application manually in the next step
    Run Application File

Install your application

  • Now install application manually
  • Make sure you use custom install options
  • Set your install directory to C:\software

After snapshot - disco32

  • Run After snapshot C:\Program Files\OnDemand\WinINSTALL\disco32.exe
  • After Discover Welcome:
    After Discover Welcome
