Manually Adding a printer
- There may be some limited cases where printing directly to the printer makes sense - such as personal or lab owned printers
- These steps will show you how to manually add a printer that you can directly print to bypassing print.cs
- ) First you need to find the direct address of the printer
- ) Open a web browser to http://print.cs.uwaterloo.ca:631/printers
- ) Open the printer name link you wish to print directly to and look at the Connection field
- ) Now copy just the address part of the connection line. Such as printername.cs.uwaterloo.ca
- ) Follow the steps below and replace the http://print.cs.uwaterloo.ca:631/printers/printername with this printer address
Windows XP
- You must use the Add Printer Wizard
-
Add a network printer, or a printer attached to another computer
-

Windows 7
Note: The Printer install Wizard has a Windows update feature that can update the list of available drivers including most of the missing postscript drivers on a new system. However; it button only appears when installing a local printer - so to get around this we will install a dummy local printer once and use the Windows Update option. Unfortunately the this is not the same Windows Updates that update Windows itself - regrettably the System wide Windows Update does not update this printer list either.
