Software updates

We have a full SuSE mirror on campus, at http://mirror.cs.uwaterloo.ca/suse.

You can point yast2 at, ie http://mirror.cs.uwaterloo.ca/suse/i386/9.2/ and install software from there. Something similar will persuade it to download patches. You can do FTP/HTTP installs similarly.

For updates, use the URL http://mirror.cs.uwaterloo.ca/suse/ - arch or version doesn't matter.

Package management

(lfolland) From what I can tell, Suse uses RPM packages by default. However, there are a couple of tools that can be helpful: yast or yast2 and rug which uses Novell's ZenWorks.

For Yast, you will want to add Software repositories, such as http://mirror.cs.uwaterloo.ca/suse above.
