Solaris Installation Notes (OBSOLETE)
We already have a number of repositories for Solaris installation notes:
We can install machines on cscfnet and csserver1net by
JumpStart installation.
Currently we have three
JumpStart servers, cscf.cs for Solaris 8 installation
for machines on cscfnet, student.cs for Solaris 8 installation for machines on
csserver1net, and s10.cscf for Solaris 10 installation for machines on cscfnet.
- Get an IP the new machine (Client) before the JumpStart installation. If the Client is not on cscfnet or csserver1net, you may use any IP of install0[1,2,3,4,5].cscf and hostname which is not in use.
- Obtain the Client's MAC address and add it into Jumpstart_server:/etc/ethers
- Check whether the model of the Client is in cscf.cs:/software/jumpstart/config/Profiles. If so, you can use that file. If not, you need to create a similar file in the directory. Look at examples in the directory.
- Add an entry to the rules for the Client.
- Check the rules by running maintenance/check. A new rules.ok file will be created.
- Distribute jumpstart-0.9 from cscf.cs to the Jumpstart server if it is not cscf.cs.
- On the Jumpstart server, run maintenance/add_install_client Client(FQDN). For Solaris 10, use maintenance/add_install_client_s10, if the type of client is sun4v, use add_install_client_s10_sun4v. If something goes wrong, run maintenance/rm_install_clientClient(FQDN), and maintenance/add_install_client -v 9 Client(FQDN) to find out.
- Finally on the Client, run boot net - install from ok prompt.
