Project Objective: Purpose

CSCF Infrastructure group to have a Ubuntu 16.04 SCS standard setup for all SCS services ready for production use by May 1, 2017.

Thin-Clients:

All disk-less desktops have been updated, includes CS-TEACHING real-time lab.

Workstations:

Graphics lab:

All workstations have been updated.

Software Engineering lab:

No work has been done on this lab.

GradPC Workstations:

Nothing deployed however we believe the recipe used in Graphics lab will be satisfactory for Ubuntu piece of dual boot image.

General-Use Systems

Beta quality (missing various software packaging) ubuntu1604 general-use systems ubuntu1604-100.cs.uwaterloo.ca and ubuntu1604-000.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca have been deployed in both the CS-GENERAL and CS-TEACHING regions.

Updating started August 2016.

Choice of Distribution

CSI is using the latest Ubuntu 16.04 distributions available from CS Club Registered Canadian Ubuntu mirror site

Software Packaging

depot.cs.uwaterloo.ca has been updated for Ubuntu 16.04 altlhough some package re-organisation is likely to be done during the fall 2016 and winter 2017 terms.
