OFIS Notes from 2 December, 2009

Past Tasks

Daniel:

  • Questions from Tamir:
    • expertise keywords: is the limit of 10 entirely because of the display? (stored in text field, comma-delimited). Because we have faculty currently with 15 keywords.
      • A: it's text. We can edit as necessary.
      • Daniel volunteered to poke at editing this display for editing.
    • "interests" and "experience" text areas: add to faculty_member as new fields?
      • A: OK.
    • join date: does this go into employment/history.php? Any thoughts about the fact that we don't have the full required information? (from the research book, we have their current title, and their join date. Don't have their title as of join date.)
      • A: UWDIR table has dates for a person: created; last mentioned, activated, expired. but does it have their title then?
      • hr_history probably won't be helpful.
    • Education: academic_background/academic_background.php ?
      • however, we don't have all of the required information: country, date graduated, field.
        • A: Beth volunteered to ask at an upcoming meeting, whether it can be a feed from HR.
  • Question for Marlon:
    • CS profs (eg., john beaty, frank tompa, and byron becker) lack dept rch kwds tab in expertise.php.
      • A: because they haven't listed any keywords. Once they have, it will display the different edit screen to add dept rch kwds.
    • bulk imports: do the records typically have a unique key, static during imports, so that re-uploads will replace the existing data?
      • need to ask via email
  • spoke with Frank Tompa on course evaluation data; work in progress.
    • looks like we need to handle cross-listed courses intelligently; and for courses changing names.
    • hoping that we get a unique ID that will stay fixed if the course changes names.
  • Beth says Jeff McBoyle says the campus-wide course-evaluation updates are stalled. But Quest might be able to produce historical data back to 2003?

Upcoming Tasks:

  • Tamir: ct'd bibtex, ct'd research-book import
  • Daniel: research-book work, course evaluation work.
