---+ How to Print from Macs to the Main CS Printers 1 Check the list of CUPS printers by browsing to *print.cs.uwaterloo.ca:631/printers* ---++ Notes :* Setting up colour printing to the Xerox Colour printers on a Mac appears to require the Mac print drivers from Xerox. (There may be a way to do this with PPD files, but more research will need to be done regarding this setup. Once it is tested, that process can be documented.) ---++ We recommend that you print directly to the printer and not via print.cs * We now recommend printing directly to the printer and not using print.cs * This has the advantage that any errors during processing will be displayed on your MAC * You can delete a job if there is a problem * To add the printer, first we find it using *print.cs* (that's all print.cs will be used for) 1 Open http://print.cs.uwaterloo.ca:631/printers in a browser 1 Find the printer in the list 1 Click on the name ( Under the Queue Name ) heading on the left had side of the page 1 Example: lj_cs * Look for the address part of the connection, in this case we want only the name *lj-cs-2.cs.uwaterloo.ca* - ie excluding the socket:// and :9100 parts * Use the address you found in the following steps 1 Select System Preferences from the Apple menu. 1 Double-click on Print & Scan (Print & Fax). 1 In Print & Scan (Print & Fax) window, click on the plus sign button. 1 Click on the IP tab in the Print Browser window. 1 For HP printers Set Protocol to HP Jetdirect - Socket, otherwise use Line Printer Daemon LPD 1 Enter printer address found previously 1 Leave the Queue field blank 1 Fill in a name for the printer - like my CS printer, etc 1 Fill in Location like DC25xx 1 Print using - we recommend downloading the driver if OS X can not find one, you can manually look in the drop-down menu by using the printer description found print.cs * Otherwise use Generic Postscript - make sure you remember to check off "has duplexer" later on ---+++ Add a printer in the usual GUI way, using IPP, with =print.cs.uwaterloo.ca:631= as the hostname and =printers/lj_cs= as the queue. 1 System Preferences -> Hardware:Print&Fax -> Click "+" to add 1 Protocol: IPP 1 Address: =print.cs.uwaterloo.ca:631= 1 Queue: =printers/lj_cs= ( *Note* make sure to include *printers/* ) for a list of other available queues, see [[CF.MacsOnMainCSPrinters#Get_a_list_of_available_print_qu][below]] * or =classes/lj_csgrad= if printing to the printer pool in the grad mail room 1 Name: =lj_cs= (or whatever you like to call it) 1 Location: =DC 2311= 1 Print Using: Generic Postscript printer * *or* Print Using: HP Laserjet Series 4015x 1 Check "Printer has Duplex capability" ---+++ Get a list of available print queues * For a list of print queues available on the print.cs CUPS server, see [[http://print.cs.uwaterloo.ca:631/printers/]] or [[http://print.cs.uwaterloo.ca:631/classes/]] for the "pool" printers, such as lj_csgrad * *Note also*: The short username (Account Name) on the Mac *must* correspond to their userid in the CS core. See [[Change Mac Short Name]] for notes on how to change this, if necessary. ---++ Xerox Work Centre Setup * [[https://cs.uwaterloo.ca/twiki/view/CF/XeroxWorkCentre5335][See this TWIKI link]]
