sudo niutil -createprop . /users/joebob shell /bin/tcsh
and substitute your short userid for joebob, of course.

- start Terminal program
- in Terminal drop down menu select Preferences
- Change to reflect the following image
- tcsh can be replaced by other shell name.
- close window by clicking on red bullet and open a new shell under file
