Performance Tips

    • Reducing number of running applications
    • Removing applications from the Autostart folder
    • Removing docked applications (in systray)
    • Disable Alarm daemon and KOrganizer alarm client
    • Disable Artsd
    • Desktop background - remove bitmap, just color / gradient

Kiosk Operation

Setting up a server with student access, with various options you don't want the students mucking with (or maybe just sensible defaults).

  • install package 'kiosktool' to save configurations for all users.
    • Suggestions:
      1. ) 'disable all tasks and applications that require root' in 'general options'
      2. ) x animate buttons in 'window decorations' in 'theming'
      3. ) x 'enable gui effects' in 'effects' in 'style' in 'theming'
      4. ) lock down proxy settings in 'setup network proxy'
      5. ) screen saver: lock down, disable opengl-based, setup screen saver to blank.
