DFSc Performance

• Snapshots blocked on cleanup of old homedirs
  • Will probably happen this week. Starting with TEACHING. Will try hourly.
  • Documentation on WCMS and motd.

• • Should also email users who will have their homedirs deleted - Nick

  • Need to delete all old snapshots due to fossilized bad file ownership.
• Need to send message to users (login message (only applies to login shell), other?) when snapshots are re-enabled, links to appropriate end user documentation - Anthony
  • Will leverage MOTD to point to other more comprehensive documentation
  • Nick Lee maintains a useful page on www.cs.uwaterloo.ca about the general use TEACHING environment, collocating documentation there is an option. RT: 1318489
• Quotas set for most accounts, list of quota violators provided for Nick, see RT: 1317978

Account Management

UID/GID re-use

• Currently causes problems with old homedirs winding up owned by new users, see RT: 1304698 and RT: 1319439
• Could fix, or we could just stop re-using UIDs/GIDs... Do we have any systems that don't support 32 bit UIDs/GIDs?
  • Reached out to Robyn Landers
    • Clayton has potentially fixed the problem of re-using UIDs/GIDs

New Business

• Upcoming networking changes due to M4 construction - Devon
  • Bridge will be demolished as early as early October
  • IST moving fiber to underground tunnels.
  • Downtime needs to be scheduled, but should not be that long.
  • Devon showed some diagrams, links in chat
  • 129.97.167 vlan may need some shuffling
