Review last meeting's Action Items
linux.cscf.uwaterloo.ca
- Still blocked on comprehensive review of authentication/authorization configuration, work stalled - need to schedule in person meetings
- Blocked on staff/manager availability
DFSc Performance
- Snapshots blocked on cleanup of old homedirs
- Homedirs have been moved to a central directory (2 weeks ago), so far no complaints. Will delete after exams.
- Need clarification on whether or not grace period is built into Account Expiration date - this includes 175 days after sponsorship/enrolment date * management needs to decide if we can increase the 175 day grace period to somewhere closer to 300(?) include double co-op terms
- Should also email users who will have their homedirs deleted - Nick
- Need to delete all old snapshots due to fossilized bad file ownership.
- Need to send message to users (login message (only applies to login shell), other?) when snapshots are re-enabled, links to appropriate end user documentation - Anthony
- Will leverage MOTD to point to other more comprehensive documentation
- Engage management on documentation location (Anthony)
- Nick Lee maintains a useful page on www.cs.uwaterloo.ca about the general use TEACHING environment, collocating documentation there is an option. RT: 1318489
- Quotas set for most accounts, list of quota violators provided for Nick, see RT: 1317978
Endpoint Protection
- IST wants to deploy SentinelOne end point security agents on all devices
- Planning test deployment to linux.student.cs (on a single node) in passive (watch and complain) mode for fall term,
Power/Cooling outtages
- Rescheduled - According to MFCF contractor is paying for generator power
New Business
UID/GID re-use
- Currently causes problems with old homedirs winding up owned by new users, see RT: 1304698 and RT: 1319439
- Could fix, or we could just stop re-using UIDs/GIDs... Do we have any systems that don't support 32 bit UIDs/GIDs?
Bulk storage
- "new" bulk storage server (storage-202.cs.private.uwaterloo.ca).
- Ideal for workloads with relaxed performance and availability needs, i.e. database backups.
