Review last meeting's Action Items

linux.cscf.uwaterloo.ca

  • New linux.cscf.uwaterloo.ca running Ubuntu 22.04 is almost ready - soft roll out next week
    • More delays due to security concerns
    • More delays - a2brenna

New DFSc Hardware

  • Vendor failing to provide reasonable updates
  • Going to Plan B, cobbling together available non-rotational storage
  • Still has not arrived, vendor has not given an ETA (no shipment information)
  • Looking into adjusting the balance of placement groups on the cluster to better distribute load -a2brenna
    • Need to look into OSD performance beforehand
  • We're expecting the same load from March 2023 (which previously caused issues)
    • Kernel patches have been deployed
    • Machines are no longer crashing, but are therefore no longer clearing out user sessions over the course of a term
    • Compared to the previous year, we seem to be in much better shape server-wise
      • Memory usage is down (reasons unclear)
      • Snapshots were previously enabled until March (and re-enabled in July, then off again in September)

Snapshots

  • There's still a need to this
  • Performance problems need to be investigated (need to look into old RTs and reproduce) -a2brenna
  • Performance uplift from switching to SSDs might help with performance issues

Disk Benchmarking
