Android Phones
We have a number (90?) of Android Phones for teaching purposes
Usage notes
Updating firmware
This was originally documented in
ST#77256
First update hboot to 35.0017 (some phones already have it, you can check which version is installed in the boot menu). Then load the complete OTA GRI40 update (2.3.3). Then load the GRJ22 update (2.3.4).
After mounting, delete everything from memory card, place file on memory card and rename the file "update" (don't unzip and make sure it's not called update.zip.zip). Turn phone off and then hold track ball and power at the same time to access the boot menu. Select "bootloader" then "recovery". Then press volume up and power at the same time when the "!" appears. Then use trackball to select "apply sdcard:update.zip".

After the last update delete everything on the memory card and reset the phone to factory defaults by selecting "clear storage" from the bootloader.
TIP: On the home screen, if you press the menu button then select "Settings" and scroll down and select "About phone" then scroll down, you will see the Android version and Build number that is installed.
Problems
If a phone is not working, first try taking the battery out and then putting it back in. Then try selecting "clear storage" from the bootloader. If that does not work, put the update.zip file on a working phone and then put that memory card in the non-working one and try updating through "recovery". If you are unable to access recovery, put this recovery image:
http://tinyurl.com/6bym3vg on the memory card and name it "PASSIMG". Once you select "bootloader" it will automatically start.
