Creating and Installing a Windows image 10 Education base image fon older Lenovo laptops

  • Tested on Lenovo T480s, t470s and T460s laptops

Where to Get Windows 10

BIOS settings

  • Enable Secure boot
    • Power on laptop and press the ENTER key repeatedly after seeing the Lenovo LOGO until the boot menu appears
    • In the Boot menu pick F1
    • Using arrow keys -> Security settings -> Enable Secure boot - F10 to save settings
      • The system will reboot - at this point go directly to the next step you will be pressing ENTER and F12

Boot USB key

  • Insert USB key created
  • Power on laptop and press the ENTER key repeatedly after seeing the Lenovo LOGO until the boot menu appears
    • In the Boot menu pick F12
  • You should now see the USB key listed in the list - if not check BIOS stetings and make sure USB is enable and or try another USB socket
    • Using Arrow keys pick USB key

Install Windows 10

  • Attach computer to Vlan 420
  • Check BIOS settings - see above
  • Boot USB Key - see above
  • Pick Install -> Custom Setup -> Delete all Partitions using mouse -> Pick New partition (it will create 3) and contuinue
    • It will copy the installer files and start the installation
  • During the setup it will as for Windows version -> Pick Windows 10 Education
  • When seting up a user pick cscf-adm for staff members or cscf-op in you are helpdesk or coop * For privacy questions limit all options to basic or no

Lenovo Updates

  • Once logged in go to support.lenovo.com -> Pick the PC/Laptop image and pick support
  • Choose Autodetect product -- This will fail - download the Lenovo Agent to detect the product and run it from your downloads folder
  • Try the support.lenovo.com page again it should take you to the support page specifically for the product
  • Choose Downloads and Drivers and pick detect -> Pick Download
    • This will install the Lenovo Updater amound other programs
    • One the Updater is installed you can run that to do all of the updates for the system
  • After lenovo updates are installed - it may have to reboot the system a few time - run the updater each time until nothing is left to do

Windows 10 Updates

  • In the Search bar enter check updates
    • When the Updater opens pick Search for updates - >update everything including optional updates
    • The system may have to reboot a few times

Update settings

  • Change power profile to never suspend when plugged in

Add CSCF windows salt client install batch file and README.txt in C:\ but do not run it

Create Image
