THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS DEPRECATED SINCE APPLE NO LONGER SUPPORTS X11. USERS ARE ADVISED TO USE XQUARTZ FROM http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/

  • XQUARTZ is currently running on all undergrad machines and defaults are only set in the X11 application Preferences.


Deprecated
  • After you have installed X11 you may want to change the default screen
  • The location of XTerm defaults is /etc/X11/app-defaults/XTerm
  • The following Lines can be added to this using sudo vi XTerm or sudo pico XTerm depending on your line editor
  • *saveLines: 512
  • *scrollBar: true

  • Adding these lines wil affect all xterm windows that are created on the machine where modified

  • The same effect can be created by using the dropdown menu in X11 Under Application/Customize
  • modify the Xterm line to read

Terminal xterm -sb -sl 512

  • This will not affect the first window that is created by the Xterm application
