Week 5 To-Do’s
Lecture and reading
Attend the lecture to learn about this week’s topics and obtain extra information from this week’s reading list (short articles/videos to read/watch). More details are available on the Schedule page. Each student should submit their first reading reflection by next week, and more information can be found on the Information page under Deliverable 1c.
Create affinity diagram from observations
Make an affinity diagram based on observations of 3 users unpacking a hoverboard. Each student should individually watch all 3 videos, and take notes about what the user says, does and feels in each video. Then, as team, create a single affinity diagram in Miro (or physical sticky notes) using the process and color-coding scheme (yellow, blue, red, and green) described in the lecture. Your design document should contain:
- A screenshot/ picture of the affinity diagram.
- A 250-500 word writeup about the key themes and insights extracted from the observations.
Create affinity diagram from interviews
Make an affinity diagram based on the mock interview and the interviews you conducted with people outside of the class. Each student should individually read the raw interview notes and write down things that he/she finds important. Then, as a team, create a single affinity diagram using the same method above. Your design document should contain:
- A screenshot/ picture of the affinity diagram.
- A 250-500 word writeup about the key themes and insights extracted from the interviews.
Use POV and HMW to analyze and synthesize your interviews
Based on your affinity diagram, personas, and empathy maps, create at least 2 POV statements and at least 3 HWM questions. Your design document should contain:
- Your POV statements.
- Your HMW questions.
- A short writeup about how the POV statements and HMW questions are derived and related to your interviews.
Team meeting and design document
Conduct this week’s team meeting or discussion in and/or out of class. Update your design document with the meeting minutes and the outcomes of this week’s activities. More details are available on the Information page under Deliverable 2a.
Think about your mid-term report
The mid-term report will due in about two weeks. It is always better to do everything earlier such as starting to polish the results in your design document, think about an outline of the presentation, reflect on the past design stages, and prepare figures or illustrations. The workload of future weeks may increase. More details are available on the Information page under Deliverable 2b.
