Accessing Course's Connect Email Account

Basic Info

  • Most courses have a Connect email account. The Connect accounts are set up as "Shared Mailboxes." This means that you cannot login using the course as the username. Instead, login using your own UW username and password.
  • With permission from your ISC, you can also use a desktop email client to check Connect email.

Getting Permission to use Course Email Account

If you don't already have permission to use the course email account, contact CSCF to get access.

Using the Connect Website

  1. Go to https://connect.uwaterloo.ca/owa/csNNN@uwaterloo.ca where csNNN is your course (replace csNNN with cs115, cs240, cs241e, etc).
  2. Login with your own username and your own password.

Common Issues

  • When you login to Connect website, if you're told to go to outlook.com or O365, make sure you are using the link https://connect.uwaterloo.ca/owa/csNNN@uwaterloo.ca. If you go to just connect.uwaterloo.ca, it might not work because some ISAs do not have their own Connect email accounts. Adding csNNN@uwaterloo.ca in the address will make Connect open the course email instead.
  • For desktop email clients: If you can open and read emails, but not send, check your SMTP server settings. For SMTP, change the username to just your own userid. Using "userid@uwaterloo.ca\csNNN@connect.uwaterloo.ca" is OK for IMAP, but may not work for SMTP (sending).
