Setting the Asset Tag and Other Asset Information

To set the asset tag for a system, perform the following steps:

  1. In the IT Assistant navigation tree, expand the Views branch and click Systems.

  2. In the systems window, click a system in the system tree, and then click the Status tab.

  3. Under General Status, click the edit.gif (349 bytes) icon to the left of Asset Tag.

  4. If prompted, enter a valid user name and password for the selected system and click OK.

  5. In the Edit Attribute dialog box, enter an asset tag string and click OK.

The asset tag you specified appears to the right of the Asset Tag entry. Your screen may flash during this update.

To set other asset information, perform the following steps:

  1. In the IT Assistant navigation tree, expand the Views branch and click Systems.

  2. In the systems window, click a system in the system tree, and then click the Asset Info tab.

The Asset Info tab displays a variety of acquisition, warranty, ownership, and depreciation data.

  3. Enter or set the information you want under each asset heading. You must scroll down to see all the headings.
NOTE: Entering years greater than 2035 while setting information on the Asset Info tab is not supported.

Viewing and Exporting System Inventory

To view a system's inventory, perform the following steps:

  1. In the IT Assistant navigation tree, expand the Views branch and click Inventory.

  2. Under Select Columns select the check boxes that represent the inventory assets you want to view.

  3. In the inventory window, perform one of the following steps:
NOTE: If you select a check box under Select Columns for an inventory item that is not present on a particular system, IT Assistant does not display the item for that system; the column for the item is blank.

To print a system's inventory or export it to a tab-delimited text file readable by word processing programs and spreadsheet programs such as Microsoft Excel, perform the following steps:

  1. View a system or group's inventory according to the previous procedure.

  2. In the upper-right corner of the window, click Print.

  3. In the Printer Options dialog box, select Print Data, Export data to file, or both.

  4. Click OK.
  1. If prompted, specify a file name and location for the text file to be exported and click Save.

Viewing Cost of Ownership MIF Information

NOTE: This feature is supported only in systems with cost of ownership (COO) instrumentation.

You can view COO data as defined by the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) COO Management Information Format (MIF) file on COO-instrumented systems in one of two ways:

To view the most commonly accessed COO data, perform the following steps:

  1. In the IT Assistant navigation tree, expand the Views branch and click Systems.

  2. In the systems window, click a COO-instrumented system in the system tree.

It is helpful to know which systems in your network are instrumented with COO instrumentation because IT Assistant does not distinguish these systems visually in the system tree.

NOTE: If you click a system and the system window displays the Asset Info tab, that system is instrumented with COO instrumentation.
  1. Click the Asset Info tab.

The Asset Info tab displays the most commonly accessed categories of COO data.
