Are you trying to do this Off-Campus ???

If you are using the campus wireless network, or you are connected to the internet off-campus, this service may not work until you are connected to the campus Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Mounting the Course Accounts On-Campus

A special type of file system mount is used to connect to the course accounts from desktops/laptops. To access the course account for csXXX you must first be in the csXXX unix group in the teaching environment. You should also reset your teaching environment password.

Connecting from Windows

From "My Computer" select "Map Network Drive". Use the default drive letter and smb:\\smb-shares.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca\csXXX for network address.Use cs-teaching\userid for your userid. Your password is the teaching region password that can be reset at https://www.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca/password/.

Connecting from Macs

From Finder, select the Go menu and then Connect to Server (or press command+K). For the server to connect to, type
smb://smb-shares.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca/csXXX
where XXX is substituted for the course you are tutoring (cs135, cs136, etc.) After typing this, click the "+" next to the input field to save this so you don't have to type it out every time you log in.

Connecting from Linux front-ends

Start in a file-browsing window (for example, by selecting Home Folder from the Places menu). In this window, select File->Connect to Server. From the Service Type dropdown menu, select Custom Location. In the Location (URI) field, type
smb://smb-shares.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca/csXXX
where XXX is substituted for the course you are tutoring (cs135, cs136, etc.), add a bookmark if you want to remember this location, and then click Connect. You will be prompted for your student.cs password, and then the course account home directory should be mounted.
